Okay, so… Steam Deck mods. They’ve been wild, right? Like, remember “Steam Brick”? Yeah, that was something. And this latest one by Michaelthatsit from Reddit—wow. I mean, who thinks of turning a Steam Deck into a keyboard? I guess Michael does. Right out of nowhere, he crafts this “all in one” kinda gizmo called the Bento.
Picture this: instead of your usual monitor setup, you hook up these fancy Type-C display glasses. Yep, glasses. Just when you think you’ve seen it all. Michael went all DIY and ripped the Deck’s innards, uh, motherboard and stuff, out of its usual shell. Then, he stuffs it into this 3D-printed chassis that, get this, fits under an Apple magic keyboard. I know, right? The dude totally nailed the fit.
So, you’ve got two main parts in this chassis thing. On the left, all the Deck’s guts—battery and such—crammed in. Plus, there are vents on the sides (nice touch) to keep the custom Van Gogh AMD APU from overheating. Who knew I’d be talking about vent placements today? Anyway, then there’s this right side chamber—I guess it’s like a secret stash box? Michael tossed in a USB hub there.
The build’s not perfect, though. Michael had to do some kind of magic trick with his 3D printer to print the shell in two parts. And, oops, no built-in mouse yet. He’s got plans, though—maybe soon we’ll see a unified body and mouse add-ons. Fingers crossed.
I’m just saying, this could be a game-changer for folks who dig SteamOS for desktop vibes more than gaming on-the-go. Michael’s really showed us what you can do with Steam Deck hardware if you’ve got that creative spark, you know? Anyway, I’m off to ponder if I should start modding things around my house. Or maybe just clean my desk. Who knows.
