Alright, so here’s the thing. Dropout, yep, the comedy streaming site that used to be College Humor, is blowing up online mainly because of this show called Game Changer. Imagine it: comedians playing all sorts of bizarre, tricky, sometimes laugh-out-loud games. It’s the kind of thing you’re hooked on after one episode, trust me. So, naturally, my brain starts spinning: What if this became a video game? Spoiler alert: It might actually happen!
I chatted with Sam Reich, the big boss at Dropout (also the host of Game Changer), during a Zoom call. We talked about how they come up with all these wild games on the show and how they tweak them until they’re just right. Anyway—where was I? Oh, right—so I had to ask him if they ever thought about turning any of this into a video game.
“Yeah, for sure,” Sam says. It caught my attention right away. He thinks it’d probably be based on Dimension 20—their super popular D&D series—or, yeah, Game Changer itself.
Here’s the kicker, though: Sam says if they’re going to make a game, it’s gotta feel authentic. Like, they aren’t just going to throw it to some random company to create—no way. It has to scream “Dropout” from the moment you start playing. The thing is, that takes a lot of time and brainpower, both of which are kind of in short supply. And, oh man, making games costs a ton of money.
When I nudged him a bit, asking if this was just a pipe dream or if they had some serious plans, he nodded. They’ve got ideas, they’re working on it. It’s not just talk.
And hey, they’ve been testing the waters with those little web games they include in Game Changer. Like, dipping a toe in the pool to see if it’s warm. Reich seemed pretty positive a Game Changer game was on the horizon… eventually. He put it this way: “We probably will do one. It’s just a question of what and when.”
Oh, and by the way, if you’re following along, the season 7 finale of Game Changer drops on August 11. Might wanna mark that down.
