Hey, so here’s the thing, I do more than just game all day. Shocker? Maybe. I mean, I’m a die-hard nerd, and yeah, that’s a badge I wear with pride. Anyway, recently I went on a bit of an adventure. Not the dragon-slaying kind, but still. It was the UK Games Expo 2025. Curious? Well, I’m here to spill the beans.
So picture this: Birmingham, England. NEC. June. Massive crowd. The place was buzzing with board game enthusiasts from everywhere. Picture like… a bunch of gaming tables, endless merch stalls, oh, and every game developer itching to show off the next big thing. I somehow made it through without selling a kidney, but let me tell ya, if you plan on going, bring some cash. You’ll need it for all the goodies.
I started at the Buy, Sell, and Swap tent—loads of hidden treasures if you’re into that. Found a couple of gems myself. Seriously, if you’ve got time, dig through those piles; you might find gold. Oh, quick tip: remember, someone’s junk could be your new favorite game.
Okay, here’s where things got interesting. Saturday, I drifted over to the Hilton, the other venue spot, right? It’s where the fun really kicked off. Picture comedians going head-to-head with Werewolf Live. I kid you not, it was as hilarious as it sounds. And then Knightmare Live—blast from my childhood (check it out later if you haven’t; it’s all kinds of ‘80s nostalgia).
About the Hilton: spent my night there, playing my new finds with some random folks. Everyone was just chill, sharing games, laughs, and a couple of beers. Made me think, why doesn’t every city have a space like this? Free game libraries should be a universal thing. Just saying.
Sunday was NEC-central again. Hustling through eight hundred (yeah, count ‘em, 800) stalls was a workout. Every corner had something new, shiny, and screaming for attention. Whether you’re into picking up dice sets or ogling at custom gaming tables, they’ve got you covered. And meeting authors and artists? Just the cherry on top.
If you’re eyeing this event (and you probably should), a little heads-up: tickets drop around Christmas. Oh, and book your hotel pronto because they fill up fast—not exaggerating here.
Honestly, if you’re into board games or just want to meet some cool people, this event’s worth every second. Next year, I’m going all three days. Two days just didn’t cut it. If you can’t make it to the UK, don’t worry; I’m pretty sure similar events pop up near you. Wherever you are, find it, and dive in. It’s one heck of a ride.
