A Switch 2 Launch Game That’s Not Gonna Leave You on Default
Alright, so Nintendo’s dropping this thing with the Switch 2, right? It’s called “Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster.” Yeah, the original Bravely Default from way back on the 3DS, 2012-ish. Wild to think how they dusted it off for a fresh spin. It was like some kinda Final Fantasy sidekick game before it did its own thing. Anyway, if you care, someone really geeky has the deets on that somewhere else online. Been around forever.
What’s cool is this classic’s all about turn-based JRPG thrills. Like, it’s known for this “Brave/Default” shenanigan. Super fun (at least that’s what people say). You either “Default” and hold your move for later like some clever strategist, or go full “Brave” and unleash chaos with banked turns. Sounds like math, but it’s not—trust me!
Skipping the nerdy details, just know that it’s got its own groove compared to other RPGs out there.
I’m kinda hyped though. Heard all about Bravely Default II and Octopath Traveler II, but never got my mitts on this OG stuff. Seems like a winner—one of those long-haul games with some old-school Final Fantasy vibes but fresh tricks. Also, it’s dropping for, like, $40 instead of the heart-stopping $70 or $80. My wallet’s almost breathing a sigh of relief.
Oh, and at PAX East 2025, I snagged a few minutes with this remaster. Joy-Con 2s in the mix, plus some new mouse gimmicks for mini-games. Played on the TV, but wasn’t all final yet—developer gear only, you know? But it looked crispy! 60fps brilliance? Maybe. Felt good with those hand-drawn backdrops popping in HD. Nice touch, Square Enix.
New mini-games too! Luxencheer Rhythm Catch and Ringabel’s Panic Cruise. Switch 2’s got some mouse actions now (Doesn’t beat a real mouse but hey, whatever). Luxencheer’s a quirky rhythm thing; I’m flinging Joy-Cons around, trying not to smack my coffee table. Can’t say I got the beat, but it was goofy fun.
Ringabel’s more my style—a bit chaotic, flying an airship, doing a million things at once. Just silly. Party game vibes are strong here.
Anyway, that’s just the icing. They’ve crammed in some UI upgrades, network bits, and quality tweaks like fast-forwarding combat. Cool, right?
So here’s the scoop for you: June 5, Square Enix is rolling out this HD remix of an epic JRPG from the 3DS days. It’s priced well, and initial vibes are good. Not everything from the original is confirmed back, but hey, it sounds promising!
