Amid growing uncertainty, MultiVersus is officially going offline on May 30, 2025, when the current season concludes. This online fighting game, launched on May 28, 2024, brought together fan-favorite characters from Warner Bros.’ iconic universes like DC comics and Looney Tunes.

The world of live-service games is notoriously perilous, and MultiVersus is the latest casualty in this challenging environment, following the struggles of other big titles like XDefiant. Despite Warner Bros. Games’ efforts, the game couldn’t sustain its early momentum or player interest, leading to its closure just a year after release by Player First Games. The cost? A staggering $100 million by the end of 2024. This unfortunate outcome has forced the developers to pull the plug on this ambitious project.

According to an announcement made on the game’s website, the online servers will be decommissioned after Season 5 ends on May 30, 2025, at 9 AM PST/12 PM EST. Consequently, MultiVersus will also vanish from digital storefronts across all gaming platforms. Warner Bros. describes the termination of online support as a decision reached after thoughtful reflection. Starting January 31, players will not be able to make purchases using real money, although they can still use in-game currency like Gleamium or character tokens until the end of the final season.

But it’s not all bad news. After the servers are shuttered, fans can still enjoy MultiVersus offline. This means you can indulge in single-player mode or even team up with up to three friends for cooperative play. To ensure you can access offline mode, make sure to download the latest update and log in at least once during Season 5, which kicks off on February 4 at 9 AM PST/12 PM EST.
