Rob Yescombe—co-creator of this wild VR mystery experience called The Invisible Hours—has somehow gotten the rights back to his game. Now, he’s dreaming about a remaster for modern VR goggles and even talking TV shows or movies. How cool is that?
According to Hollywood Reporter, Yescombe is on a quest. The goal? Find the right folks to turn The Invisible Hours into a film or a TV series. Seriously, it’s one of the quirkiest VR mystery games out there, and I guess he figured, why not?
Imagine an Agatha Christie novel mashed with a game of Clue, except you’re like, ghosting through a mansion on a mystery island trying to piece together who offed the famous inventor, Nikola Tesla. You’re not playing a character—more like an invisible detective, rewinding or fast-forwarding through time to catch each suspect’s shady moves.
So way back in 2017, they launched this thing on PC VR headsets and the old PSVR. Critics dug it—people really got into it. Fast forward to 2020, Tequila Works announced it was trying to bring it to Quest… but the shop got shuttered in 2024. What a downer.
But here’s the twist—Yescombe’s in the driver’s seat now, owning the game’s IP and all. He’s calling it a “prime candidate for a facelift.” “Making The Invisible Hours was the highlight of my creative career,” he shared with Hollywood Reporter. Seems like fans keep bugging him about it even now, which must be flattering, or maybe a little annoying. Who knows?
Since The Invisible Hours, Yescombe’s been penning tales for other games and even got involved with stuff like The Twilight Zone VR and Arizona Sunshine 2. He’s cranking out narratives for all sorts of projects, including movies like Netflix’s Outside the Wire and that action-comedy Jackpot!. Plus, he’s worked on big names like Alien and Blade Runner. Dude keeps busy, that’s for sure.
