Hey, so I just stumbled on this new game thing that made my brain flip inside out a bit. HOTEL BARCELONA, right? It’s like Swery and Suda51 threw their wildest dreams (or nightmares?) into a pot and came up with this. Anyway, it’s hitting PS5 this September, thanks to CULT Games and White Owls. Kinda excited. No idea why. Maybe it’s the chaos? Who knows.
There’s this weird video thumbnail asking for your birth date. Why do they even need that? Anyway, this hotel isn’t just some fancy place. Nope, it’s like… a creepy trap for serial killers? Out in the middle of nowhere, straddling the line between Pennsylvania and West Virginia. I swear, the East Coast has its share of odd corners.
So you play as Justine, who’s like this fresh-faced federal marshal. Oh, and guess what? She’s got a bit of a split personality thing going on, sharing her noggin with Dr. Carnival – not exactly the friendly neighborhood doctor, you know? Together, they’ve got to take out these killers and, hopefully, get out in one piece. Easy peasy, right? (Not really.)
Get this – the game’s all about this 2.5D action. Sounds fancy. It’s not just pushing buttons; you need to think on your feet. Maneuver, dodge, use your wits. Feels a bit like those old horror movies. You know, the ones that have that crackly, almost-forgotten atmosphere? Nostalgia, maybe?
Here’s a twist – you die, and a ‘Slasher Phantom’ pops up. Yep, your past self helps you out. It’s like a ghostly version of tag-team. Every screw-up kind of makes you stronger. Probably not how real life works, but hey, it’s a game!
And you’re, like, bathed in blood. Kinda gross but, it’s fuel for power. Every fight drenches you more and fills up this thing called the Skull Gauge. Once it’s topped off, unleash some chaos – the Carnival Awakening. Again, why blood? No clue, but here we are.
There are seven spooky zones, each with their own creepy bosses. Think haunted houses and mad scientist labs. Each area feels like it stepped out from different horror flick tropes. Variety is the spice of life, or horror in this case.
Swery and Suda51 – two names known for bending our minds with games like ‘Deadly Premonition’ and ‘No More Heroes’. This duo’s like chocolate and peanut butter, but in game form. Or is it oil and vinegar? Either way, it’s going to be memorable.
Visually speaking, it’s a trip – I mean, look at those screenshots. They pull you right into their delusion. There you have it, a chaotic, trippy ride through twisted minds. Can’t tell if I’m more excited or scared. Maybe both.
