Marvel Competitors Weigh In on PlayStation Network Downtime

The team behind Marvel Rivals has issued an apology to its fans over the game’s current unplayability on the PS5. Like other online games designed for Sony’s consoles, Marvel Rivals has been impacted by a broader PlayStation Network (PSN) outage that began on February 7.

This service interruption has left many PS5 and PS4 users unable to connect online. Sony acknowledged the issue on February 7 and announced an investigation, yet since then, no substantial updates have been provided. As of February 8, this outage had persisted for over 19 hours, much to the frustration of users eagerly awaiting service restoration.

NetEase Games, the developers and publishers of Marvel Rivals, has been in constant communication with Sony about resolving the situation. Even so, Sony has remained largely silent towards its consumers about the specifics of the outage, leaving players in the dark and growing increasingly impatient.

The Marvel Rivals team addressed the downtime, acknowledging that the ongoing PSN outage is the reason the game can’t currently be played on the PS5. They are actively working with Sony on a fix, but similar to past incidents, Sony has yet to provide a clear timeline for when normal service will resume.

As frustrations mount, particularly among fans vocal on social media, the lack of communication from Sony is reminiscent of the infamous PSN outage in 2011, which lasted nearly a month and is remembered as one of the longest in the platform’s history.

This network issue not only affects game playability but hampers other functionalities like account management and game streaming. While the web version of the PlayStation Store remains accessible, completing purchases is not possible. Even logging in through a web browser has proven to be problematic.

The outage also extends to PlayStation PC games requiring PSN account integration, such as the multiplayer mode in Ghost of Tsushima’s Steam version, which is currently unavailable. Based on past occurrences, Sony appears to be methodically investigating this unexpected outage, which likely explains the lack of detailed updates. It’s clear, however, that an unexpected event has caused this interruption to begin in early February 2025, and many are hoping for a swift resolution.
