Minecraft Tabletop RPG Coming Soon from Marvel Multiverse Writer Matt Forbeck

Renowned New York Times bestselling author Matt Forbeck, who also led the design of the Marvel Multiverse RPG, has joined forces with his son Marty to bring a fresh tabletop adventure to the world of Minecraft. This exciting release, titled “Minecraft: Roll for Adventure: The Temple of the Charged Creeper,” aims to blend the wildly popular elements of the online crafting game with a straightforward role-playing system. Now available for pre-order, it promises to be a captivating experience for both Minecraft fans and tabletop enthusiasts.

However, Penguin Random House, the publisher behind this adventure, is keeping details about the game mechanics under wraps, a strategy often seen with major IP-based tabletop launches. From the book’s cover showcasing two six-sided dice, it’s clear that dice will play a role, and the publisher notes that the set comes with “four dice.” Additionally, the gamebook features a “removable character sheet” and a “rules reference” to track heroic progress, perfect whether you’re playing alone or leading a group as the game master—here called “your narrator.”

The backdrop of this adventure is a secluded village besieged by “illagers,” a familiar foe for Minecraft fans, who’ve made appearances in Forbeck’s previous work, like his 2020 novel “Minecraft Dungeons: The Rise of the Arch-Illager.” Much like a traditional Dungeons & Dragons storyline, players are tasked with saving the day by uncovering and neutralizing the source of their troubles: the Temple of the Charged Creeper.

Matt Forbeck brings a wealth of experience to the table, having crafted stories and games for big names like D&D, Minecraft, Halo, and Life is Strange, alongside his own original works. The scant details about the game only add intrigue, as fans eagerly anticipate how it will resonate with both the Minecraft community and tabletop gamers upon its release in July 2025.
