So, Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, basically came out and said, “Hey, sorry about the whole Switch 2 thing.” Apparently, they’re having a tough time cranking out enough consoles. It’s like they underestimated just how many people are dying to get their hands on this thing. Who knew, right?
Furukawa chatted about this during some big shareholder meeting. Imagine being there, kinda awkward if you ask me. He was all, “Yeah, sorry if you or your mom or your mom’s best friend couldn’t buy one.” I mean, can you picture the chaos at family dinners? “Pass the peas, and oh, by the way, who got a Switch 2?”
Japan’s got its own wild story. Back in April, Nintendo starts this lottery thing on their My Nintendo Store. Random draw, meet some criteria, blah blah. Over 2.2 million folks threw their names in the hat. Furukawa even posted on X (not sure why they use that name – sounds like it should be a spy app or something) about how many people wouldn’t make the cut. Like, ouch, Mr. F.
Apparently, they’ve had four of these drawings now, cause, ya know, one just wasn’t enough. A fifth one’s coming next month, so there’s that. At least it’s not a total loss. And, word on the street is, some stores are finally just selling them outright. You might catch one if you’re lucky.
Still, Furukawa insists they’re cranking up production as best as they can. Whatever that means. I imagine like, a lot of caffeine and machine parts, but maybe that’s just me.
Also, the Switch 2 had a big debut with Mario Kart World and there’s a lineup of games coming. July’s got Donkey Kong and Super Mario Party Jamboree (because one Mario Party wasn’t a party enough, I guess). August brings Drag x Drive and Kirby, then later, Pokémon and Hyrule Warriors. It’s like a never-ending treasure chest of games.
Price-wise, it’s not exactly chump change. In the UK, it’s £395.99, over in Europe it’s €469.99, and stateside it’s running $449.99. Who needs rent, right?
Oh, and they dropped a launch trailer too! Probably full of shiny graphics and heart-pounding music. Haven’t seen it, but I can just imagine. Anyway — wait, was I talking about something else? No, that’s it. Nintendo Switch 2: the saga continues.
