Hey, okay, so have you ever just picked up a game and thought, “Why does this feel like… kinda like home?” Yeah, same. “Voidwrought” by Powersnake Games! It’s like diving into this 2D world—Metroidvania style, yeah, that’s a thing. Oh, and let’s not get too fancy calling them Metroidvanias now, haha. So, this game is pretty wild. You play as, um, Simulacrum, dropping out of a cocoon—sounds cozy, doesn’t it? Well, not really, ’cause you’re hunting Ichor from these monster-like dudes. It’s the blood of gods, they say. Who knew gods bled like us?
Now, first thing—visuals. Mind-blowing, I tell ya! Hand-drawn art so fine, you’d think it’s from an art gallery. The place is all mazes—dark corners and those shadows that kinda move when you’re not looking. And enemies? Man, more than 80 types. Like every room’s got its own surprise party. Maybe a creepy surprise party, but hey, I love creepy.
Anyhoo, gameplay’s slick. You’re like wandering through these endless… ugh, what were they again? Oh right—corridors. Carving paths, smashing walls, discovering secret nooks. Spooky business if you think about it. And collecting these Ichor thingies to buy stuff from vendors—sounds oddly like my weekend. Or not. Weapons galore, and it’s not your usual BANG-BANG; you gotta pick arch-enemy weaknesses. Decisions, decisions.
Soundtrack? It’s a trip, really. You’re in this virtual zone, no dialogue (kinda makes me miss the chatter), just music that nails that eerie vibe. Boss tracks? Ugh, deliciously intense. Gets your blood racing like you downed a triple espresso.
Oh, the bosses… are brutal, let me tell ya. You walk in all cool and soon, it’s “cue epic fails montage,” am I right? But seriously, they’re tough. Sometimes too tough. Makes you wanna throw the controller, but then you’re curious what’s next. It’s the mystery, you know? Keeps you crawling back.
Had a moment—got stuck. My brain is spaghetti these days. The game has this pin thingy (thanks to me poking around), so handy but confusing. I was lost but didn’t even mind ’cause the next corner always promised… something.
So yeah, I’m hooked. Still got more to tackle. This game? It’s part of that Metroidvania madness, but it’s a keeper. Music great, story neat, sets this dark mood that weirdly keeps ya warm. With gaming studios folding, having something built by a small team feels precious. Honest, simple fun. If your heart’s shouting “try it,” listen up. Trust me. Or don’t. Whatever.
And yes, one of those games you need more than like two hours to beat. It feels complete in a time of unfinished business. Just go, play, and let the world melt away. Pick this one up if that’s your jam. Trust me, you’ll not regret it.
P.S. Shoutout to getting the game for this review. Thanks, publisher folks.
