This remastered edition of the 2010 classic was initially launched in 2014, bringing an enhanced experience to both Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players, along with its sequel, Metro: Last Light Redux.

Inspired by the acclaimed works of Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky, the Metro series has carved out a niche alongside the STALKER series as a leading name in horror FPS games. Historically, STALKER was a PC favorite until its recent availability on Xbox Game Pass with STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl. However, Metro had its roots on the Xbox 360, earning widespread acclaim. Although Steam and GOG users reportedly had no troubles claiming the freebie, Xbox enthusiasts encountered issues, preventing them from adding Metro 2033 Redux to their collections permanently. To resolve this hiccup, the developers have pledged to offer another chance soon for Xbox players to claim their free copy.

While Xbox gamers eagerly await the return of the free offer, it’s clear that this opportunity won’t extend to players on Steam and GOG who missed out initially. The omission of PlayStation and Switch gamers in the 15-year anniversary giveaway could stem from Metro 2033’s origins as a console exclusive for the Xbox 360, only later arriving on PlayStation and Switch in 2014 and 2020 as Metro 2033 Redux.
