Man, so Bigscreen just dropped some news about this new Beyond 2e headset, right? But hang on—this one is all decked out for the VRChat crowd. It’s like, if you’re super into VRChat, this might be your jam. Came out of nowhere for me, and I can’t help but wonder, why now? Anyway, Beyond 2 just started shipping last month—well, two versions, the regular and this fancy eye-tracking one called Beyond 2e. And voila, now we hear about this VRChat Edition. Set to roll out around September 2025. That feels like forever, doesn’t it?
Spec-wise, this VRChat Edition isn’t shaking things up much from the Beyond 2e. Pretty much identical. Like, hey, still got those eye-tracking sensors, retina-burning 2,560 x 2,560 micro-OLED displays, and a field of view at 116 degrees. Something about those pancake lenses—no idea why pancake, but it works. And it weighs a mere 107g. Seriously, that’s lighter than my cat. Speaking of which, should I get a lighter cat? Anyway…
Oh, and they’re taking pre-orders now. $1,269 if you’ve got that lying around. A bit pricier than the basic Beyond 2e, I guess. It’s packing some clear differences though—like this Atomic Purple shell. Translucent? How retro is that? And the packaging’s got hand-drawn art. It’s the little things, right?
But hold up, before you whip out your credit card, your PC better be VR-ready. That’s the rule. You’ll need all that extra gear too, SteamVR base stations, controllers, and maybe some trackers for dancing around in VRChat. Honestly, are they assuming everyone has all this stuff or what?
The box also gets these exclusive VRChat goodies—stickers, badges, the works. They’re teasing even more stuff down the line, something about exclusive drops. Whether that means we’ll be unboxing gold or just a regular pair of virtual socks, who’s to say?
If you’re already in line for a Beyond 2, guess what? There’s an upgrade path if you’re itching for this VRChat Edition. Just holler at their support hotline.
And hey, if you’re really curious, there’s this whole conversation with Bigscreen’s big cheese, Darshan Shankar, and someone named Tupper from VRChat. They’re geeking out over the whole eye-tracking in VRChat thing. Still haven’t tuned in myself, but I might. Once I dig out of this other rabbit hole I fell into—long story.
So yeah, that’s the gist. VRChat and Bigscreen are up to something. And here I am, wondering how long it’d take to save up for this gear. Maybe I’ll upgrade my headset first. Or my cat. Who knows.
