HoYoverse, you know, the folks who brought us Genshin Impact, just decided to kind of pull the plug on the PS4 version. Yeah, they’re basically saying, "Sorry, PS4 folks, no more updates after spring next year." And, like, it’s vanishing from the PlayStation store soon. Next month, actually. Oh, and heads up, by February 2026, all those shiny in-game purchases? Gone. You won’t be playing it on PS4 at all after that.
So they said in this official thing, "Due to limitations related to hardware performance and platform application size," whatever that means, they’re stopping all updates for PS4. Come September 9, 2025, poof—it’s off the PlayStation Store. If you haven’t snagged it by then, well, tough luck—search all you want, it’ll be ghosted.
And then what? February 25, 2026 rolls around, and bam, all those in-game buys you’ve stashed away? Toast. If you bought it but never claimed it in-game, you’ll lose it forever if you don’t hustle. It’s that eat-or-be-eaten vibe, right?
And mark your calendars: April 8, 2026, is doomsday. You won’t even be able to log in on PS4. Bye-bye. But hey, there’s hope! You can still jump onto another system—PS5, PC, Xbox Series, or even your phone if you’re into that.
Here’s where things (kind of) twist my brain a bit. They’re basically giving PS4 users an eight-month notice, yet the whole reason feels shady. I mean, how come it’s fine on mobile but not on PS4? I get it, PS4 is from 2013—a bit ancient tech-wise—but still. The game runs on Android with about 8GB space and 3GB memory needs, and iPhones from 2017 onward can handle it. And PS4? It kicked off with 8GB RAM and 500GB storage, which sounds decent.
Heard from a rep at HoYoverse, they’re raising device specs to spruce things up, starting with the ‘Song of the Welkin Moon’ version. They told folks to check the official notice for the deets.
Guess it won’t mess with most players, unless you’re rocking an old Android. But still, kind of bugs me PS4 can’t handle it. Anyway, it’s a bummer for PS4 users and kind of makes you think about how fleeting these games are.
