Layoffs at Virtuos, huh? That’s a real bummer. So, here’s the scoop as far as I can gather — French journalist Gauthier Andres spilled the beans on BlueSky. Apparently, Virtuos is letting go of about 7% of its folks. That’s somewhere around 300 people. Ouch.
Anyway, the bigwigs at Virtuos confirmed it. They’re axing 200 jobs in their Asian operations and another 70 in Europe. France didn’t escape either, but it’s fewer than ten positions there. I guess they’re saying it’s all about keeping up with what their partners and the industry needs. You know, the usual corporate spiel.
Virtuos blabbed on about game development getting all complicated and how they’re shifting gears. They want to stick to what they call “high-value” stuff — game engineering, fancy art, live services, you name it. It sounds fancy but still sucks for those losing their jobs.
On the plus side, or maybe not depending on how you see it, they said these folks won’t be shoved out with nothing. There’s separation pay, some job-hunting help, and possibly other opportunities within their global empire.
If Virtuos rings a bell, it’s probably ’cause of their work on The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, which, fun fact, dropped earlier this year. They’re also in the kitchen whipping up Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. And let’s not forget their fingerprints on Dune: Awakening, Cyberpunk 2077, and Sea of Thieves.
Seems like layoffs are trending or something. Microsoft, for instance, has been at it too. They’ve trimmed the workforce four times in 18 months. Crazy times, right? I’m rambling — anyway, that’s the story.
