Man, Analogue’s at it again. You know, those folks trying to breathe life into old-school gaming by creating retro consoles? So listen, they’ve been working on this Nintendo 64 thing—what are they calling it now? Oh right, the Analogue 3D. And guess what? It’s delayed. Again. Big surprise, right?
Apparently, the “sudden” tariff changes last week (who knew tariffs were a thing gamers had to worry about?) have pushed things back to “late August.” Honestly, it’s not a massive delay, but still. I mean, what even are “sudden tariff changes”? Feels like something out of a sitcom.
Anyway, they claim they’re handling the costs themselves, so at least those who’ve pre-ordered won’t face extra charges. Yay for not losing more money, I guess. But seriously, if you’ve been waiting this long, you’ve gotta wonder how frustrated folks are. I’ve heard some might cancel, but with $250 already tied up, most will probably hang on. Plus, prices might jump once it hits general sales. Oh joy.
Okay, backtracking for a sec. This delay saga started way back in 2023. They teased this thing for a year before announcing it in 2024, then set expectations for a 2025 release. But here we are, with excuses piling up—economics and all that jazz.
The Analogue 3D is all about retaining that original vibe while stepping into the modern world. We’re talking 4K HDMI, original display modes, compatible with global cartridges, and even some fancy recreations of CRT monitors. And, get this, it’s not running on software emulation but some FPGA wizardry—transistor-level stuff. Sounds wild.
Oh, and no ROM files here. If you wanna play, you need those old cartridges. It’s kinda like resurrecting your childhood game collection, dusty cartridges and all. Reminds me of their ‘Pocket’ device for Game Boy fans.
So yeah, maybe by late August, we’ll finally see if they pull it off. Who knows? Just another day in the world of retro gaming nostalgia, right?
