VR enthusiast Holydh recently introduced the GTA: San Andreas Definitive Edition – 6DoF UEVR Plugin, expanding modded PC VR capabilities for the game via the Steam platform.
Back in August, Meta and Rockstar put a halt to their long-anticipated Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas VR port for the Quest, leaving fans relying on Rockstar’s dynamic modding community to bring GTA to VR independently. This indefinite postponement essentially marked the close of a challenging phase for both Rockstar and the GTA series, riddled with major leaks, staff layoffs, and uneven launches for the revamped “Definitive Editions” of its classic games, including San Andreas.
This mod by Holydh isn’t a mere conversion of standard San Andreas controls into a virtual reality format. On the contrary, it provides complete first-person support, along with 6DOF motion controls and enhanced camera functionality for both gameplay and cutscenes. The mod utilizes an advanced version of Praydog’s UEVR injector, which enables VR support for most PC games developed with Unreal Engine 4.8 or later.
Curious about how the mod performs? You can actually see it in action online.
For those eager to explore this mod, more details, including specifics about UEVR, are available on its Nexus Mods page. However, it’s worth noting that this mod is strictly compatible with the Steam version of San Andreas Definitive Edition; it doesn’t support versions from the Epic Games Store or Rockstar Launcher.
It’s important to be cautious, as Rockstar has a history of being quite protective legally, as evidenced by the situation with the Luke Ross VR mod for Grand Theft Auto 5. Nonetheless, Holydh believes this mod should remain safe from legal trouble since it’s freely accessible and doesn’t involve Rockstar’s proprietary files, contrary to the Luke Ross mod, which initially required payment.
