Oh boy, here’s the thing about the Nintendo Switch 2—everyone’s buzzing about this Nvidia DLSS support. I mean, Nvidia’s tech is like, the king of upscaling. Or maybe the gorilla? You know what I’m getting at. Anyway, the point is, it’s supposed to be a big deal, especially since the Switch 2 doesn’t exactly have the muscle for super fancy graphics.
So, you’d think everyone would be all over it, right? But nope. Turns out, not every game developer is jumping on the DLSS bandwagon. Now, that’s a head-scratcher. Even Nintendo’s own Donkey Kong Bananza skipped it. When Digital Foundry dug into this (and they’re pretty sharp, right?), they confirmed the DLSS absence. Why isn’t it there? Beats me.
By the way—almost forgot, there’s this video from Digital Foundry, they did a review on it. Might wanna check that out if you’re curious.
Anyway, moving on—yeah, saw some rumblings about performance hiccups. Heard it from a few Switch 2 devs. They’re kinda like, hey, brace yourself, Donkey Kong Bananza might not run smooth as silk. Apparently, this game’s been cooking for years, and maybe that’s why DLSS isn’t on the menu?
Instead, they went with AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR 1) and something called Subpixel Morphological Anti-Aliasing—try saying that five times fast. It’s supposed to clean up the graphics nicely, so there’s that.
And get this, Mario Kart World isn’t packing DLSS either. Which kinda shocked me. You’d think Nintendo would wanna showcase all the Switch 2 bells and whistles. Plus, they botched the HDR support. Eye roll moment, seriously.
Now we’re just kinda waiting around to see if other developers decide to play ball with DLSS. There’s a buzz about Metroid Prime 4: Beyond possibly using it, but hey, nothing’s official yet, so who knows what’s on the horizon.
Anyway, I’m rambling. If you’re hunting for the latest on gaming, maybe follow Tom’s Hardware on Google News. They keep things fresh and full of insights. No idea why I felt like mentioning that, but there you go.
