Okay, here goes. Bear with me because it’s going to be a wild ride:

So, yeah, June 5 is apparently when the Nintendo Switch 2 hits the scene. It’s got this whole explosion of launch titles, right? Like, everything from Mario Kart World—which everyone’s gonna want—to those gnarly third-party ports. You know, the stuff the old Switch couldn’t handle? Cyberpunk 2077, I’m looking at you. Anyway, new generation consoles always shake things up. Imagine some old titles getting a fresh coat of paint, like those Zelda or Pokémon classics we saw before. And wouldn’t it be unreasonably cool to see the comeback of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon? Seriously, a game where a human turns into a Pokémon? Wild.
So, these Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games—kind of random and chaotic, right? I mean, it’s a spin-off from something called Mystery Dungeon by Spike Chunsoft? Whatever that is. But you’re like, in a dungeon that’s randomly generated, and you’re battling Pokémon. Turn-based, like the regular games. But then there are days when you’re running errands, like rescuing Pokémon or delivering stuff. Occasionally, you bump into Legendaries like Rayquaza. Can you believe that? They’re more than just those flashy cover mascots here.
I think the first ones—Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team—are like, nearly 20 years old now? Whoa. Came out on the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS in 2005. They’re totally different from the usual “Gotta catch ’em all!” vibe. No Pokéballs here—nope, you actually become one of the little guys. Supposedly, there’s this personality quiz that decides which Pokémon you turn into. Like a Buzzfeed quiz before there was Buzzfeed. Man, I miss DeviantArt…
Apparently, they kept making these throughout the DS and 3DS days, up to 2015. Then, boom, we got a remake, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX, on the Switch in 2020. Sticking to the classic gameplay and quiz mechanic, but hey, now you can pick your Pokémon if you didn’t like the result. Rescue Team DX also brought this super artsy style, which was kinda cool.
Even though Rescue Team DX got mixed reviews when it came out, it still sold over a million copies fast. Not bad, right? But of course, Nintendo’s always doing its own thing—like reviving Kirby Air Ride after 22 years with a Switch 2 sequel. What’s up with that?
And now, after the last Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, they’ve churned out a bunch of mainline games and this new Legends series. There are so many new Pokémon now. Honestly, who wouldn’t want to play as that silly apple creature, Fuecoco, or the little drummer monkey, Grookey? So maybe Mystery Dungeon is benched for the moment. But fingers crossed, maybe at the Pokémon Presents in July they’ll announce it for Switch 2. You better believe I’m hoping for that.

There you have it! Raw, chaotic, and downright unpredictable.
